This past Saturday would have been Lucille Ball’s 100th birthday. Lucille Ball has always been one of my favorite actresses and role models. I’ve been having I Love Lucy Marathons with my mom and aunt for as long as I can remember and even collect I Love Lucy memorabilia (my favorites are my Vitameatavegamin t-shirt, collectible clock, and everything related to the chocolate factory episode!) So obviously, I was in heaven looking at all the ways other were appreciating her legacy this weekend. Here are some of my favorite memorials to Lucille from the weekend:
Interactive Google Doodle – To be honest, I spent way too much time on Saturday on the Google.com. I’m always excited when the Google Doodle is interactive and I can play with it to waste time, but I can’t even describe my spastic reaction when I went to look something up and saw clips from some of the most classic episodes! The short clips were great to watch during commercial breaks in the I Love Lucy marathon on TV all weekend
Ten Lessons Learned from Lucille Ball, Entrepreneur – As much as I have been inspired by Lucille Ball as a woman, I have to say I never thought to look to her for entrepreneurial advice. But this post from YouTern’s The Savvy Intern blog highlights some of the things our generation (or any generation) can learn from her. The post highlights the ways in which she was a trendsetter and innovator. I can now add these lessons to the list among ‘be able to laugh at yourself’ and other words to live by.
GetGlue’s 100 Years of Lucy Sticker – By checking into ‘I Love Lucy’ during the weekend-long marathon on Hallmark, GetGlue users were awarded a limited-time sticker. I am already brainstorming places to put the treasured sticker once I can get it in the mail!
Lastly, I loved all of the posts and comments about everyone’s favorite I Love Lucy episodes and scenes. It’s amazing how the show is from so long ago but it’s still a show that all generations appreciate. Between ranked lists of I Love Lucy moments and fans sharing what their personal favorite episode was, I was so happy to see how appreciated Lucille Ball still is.
